Nowadays the nose piercing is one of the most prevailing piercings. Fallows the trend, in a unique way it is a living tradition.
Its first apparence was in the middle east. In the history appeared in many continents like North Africa, arabs, berbers and in nomadic cultures. It was a privilege of the ladies, they got it from their new husbands. It was a sign of protection.
Also appeared in Middle African tribes, it was a sign of marriage too. And also the sign of an actual social position. It was not worn by gentelmans.
It was taken into india by the Mogul conquerors , it was also the married womans privilege, but just on the left side. They used dots or rings, and sometimes they connected it to the earring with a chain.
In india it was a long time trend, mostly in the 60's because of the hippies, in the 70's began in America an d after that in Europe.
Nowadays the dot is the most common , worn mostly by the ladies. Worn by a gentleman means beaing an artist , a sexual distinction or a distinction from the society.
